The Mongol Charities Rally - A Long Journey to the Steppes Begins with the First Step

The Windy City team, from--you guessed it--Chicago, is in preparatory stages of taking a Ford Transit Ambulance from London U K, to Ulaanbaator, Mongolia in the Mongol Charities Rally. This is a 10,000+ mile trip in the heat of the summer through 17 countries, many of them "Stan" countries.
The photo shows our prime condition vehicle, with only 11,000 miles on it, despite its being manufactured in the year 2,000. Apparently it sat in a Royal Air Force base's hangar, waiting for a plane to crash, and fortunately, there just weren't very many that crashed! After we arrive in Mongolia, it will be donated to charity.
This marvelously engineered vehicle has a cool running diesel engine, manual or stick shift, and lots of interior space to hold our gear, including extra spare tires, jerry cans for water and for extra fuel. Soon I will introduce my other team member to you.  Bob Schenck
